Get Ready For 3D On Your Mobile Phone

April 9, 2010 No comments yet

In the video industry, the latest buzzword these days is 3D. Televisons in 3D mode will be released this summer with new programmes being rapidly produced to meet the demands and people are flocking to cinemas to watch 3D enabled films such as James Cameron’s Avatar. So when will 3D begin appearing on our mobile phone screens?

James Cameron recently said that he believes that 3D is going to come to mobile phones faster than people might think. He explains that the technology necessary to create 3D images on a small screen like a mobile phone is actually simple when compared to the 3D technology required for the big screen. Moreover, you won’t need to wear 3D glasses to see 3D on a small mobile phone screen because of the way that the technologies differ.

However, is it going to really be worth it to watch movies like Avatar on a screen as small as your mobile phone? Cameron says no. The entire design of a 3D movie like this one is supposed to be a monumental big-screen effect that appeals to your senses. It just isn’t likely that you’re going to be able to really get that effect on such a tiny screen.

So what will 3D be good for on mobile phones? Cameron says that he’s excited about the 3D apps that developers are likely to start coming out with the near future.

How To Use Capture It To Get BlackBerry Screenshots

March 1, 2010 No comments yet

Capture It is a really cool app for BlackBerry handsets. It allows you to take screenshots of what you’re seeing on your BlackBerry screen. You can then easily share these screenshots to let other people know what you’re doing on your BlackBerry phone. Best of all, it’s simple to use and free to download. As long as you’re using a BlackBerry handset with a 4.3 OS or higher then you can easily use this app.

Why Would You Want BlackBerry Screenshots?

Think about all of the times that you’ve wanted to share what was on your mobile phone with someone else but haven’t had an easy way of doing it. That’s what this app is for if you’re a BlackBerry user. Screenshots of your BlackBerry’s screen might be used for:

Posting to a blog. If you’re doing something cool with your BlackBerry then you might want to let other people know about it through your blog. A picture’s worth a thousand words so a screenshot it is a great tool.

You want to share your home screen. We share everything these days with our email contacts and social networking friends. You might want to share your home screen image with others just for fun.

For your job. Are you an app reviewer? Are you a developer who wants customers to easily be able to see what your apps do? You might want to use the screenshot app to make your job easier.

How to Download the Capture It App

You can download this free app using your BlackBerry handset. Simply log on to the mobile web in the same way that you always do, and go to the following mobile website: http://m.thetechmogul.com. You will see a link there that lets you download the latest version (1.4) on to you BlackBerry handset. Download the app by following the link and pressing the “download” button. Depending on your handset, the app may immediately download and install or you may have to restart your phone for the app to install. Follow the instructions and you’ll be fine.

How to Use the App to Take a Screenshot

Once you’ve downloaded the Capture It app, how do you use it? Follow these steps:

Find the app. The app has probably been installed in your Downloads folder. Alternatively, it may be installed on your home screen. This depends on your handset. It’s helpful to know where it’s at, although you will be able to access it from your BlackBerry menu.

Choose the screen that you want to take a screenshot of. This app allows you to capture a screenshot for any display on the handset.

Go to the menu button on your BlackBerry handset. Open up the menu and find “Capture It”. Select it. You will feel a slight vibration of your phone as the image is captured. It’s as easy as that; your screenshot has been taken and is now located on your device.

How to Find and Use your Screenshot

Now that your screenshot has been taken, you need to find it and use it. It’s easy to find it; just go to Pictures and you will see the image there. It should be the first image that you see assuming that you didn’t take any other pictures after taking the screenshot.

You can do a lot of things from this picture, just like you can with all of the pictures in this folder. Simply select the BlackBerry menu again and choose what actions you want to take. For example, you can set the screenshot as your new wallpaper, or move it to somewhere else on the device.

One of the things that you’re likely to want to do with your screenshot is to share it. Simple choose “send or share” from your BlackBerry menu button. Follow the instructions on these choices to share this screenshot with others. (For example, choose email and follow the on-device instructions to easily email the image to someone else).

Bonus Tip: Assign Capture It to a Convenience Key

You might want to assign Capture It to a convenience key on your BlackBerry handset so that it’s even easier to locate and use it. It’s easy to do that. Follow these steps:

Go to the applications menu on your handset.

Go to “options” inside of applications.

From the options available, choose “screen/keyboard”.

Scroll down to selection “convenience key opens”.

Press “menu”.

Select “change options”.

Scroll down to the Capture It option to assign this app to a convenience key.

Save your changes.

Why Capture It Is Better Than Other Options for BlackBerry Screenshots

You might already know that there are other options for taking screenshots with your BlackBerry. So why use Capture It? Well, the reason is because this is a wireless option whereas most of the other good options out there are not wireless. Other options, such as using the command prompt or taking screenshots with BB ScreenShooter, require you to connect your device to your computer before you can take and use the screenshot. Since you probably use your BlackBerry when you’re on the go, these options aren’t nearly as convenient as learning how to use Capture It.

Mobile phone battery explodes Chinese man’s chest!

February 3, 2009 No comments yet

Forget about catching on fire, this particular mobile phone battery actually exploded with enough force to sever some apparently vital (as opossed to those non-vital arteries…) arteries in a Chinese man’s chest. Chinese-language site Hexun is reporting that witnesses heard a sudden, loud “bang” and then saw the man fall to the floor. Sadly, the exploding mobile phone battery resulted in an untimely end for the poor guy, who was just out shopping at a Lenovo ( OTCPK: LNVGY ) store. China seems to be a hotbed for phone mishaps that involve batteries and some sort of combustion

Orange has launched a pay as you go Blackberry handset aimed at the youth market, in an interesting marketing idea.

The BlackBerry Pearl 8120 in indigo marks a shift away from a focus on the business market for RIM. The handset will be available on prepay for £145 and will be marketed with an Orange £5 monthly internet add-on.

The phone will promoted to the youth market with easy access to internet sites such as the Facebook, Myspace, Flikr and windows live messaging.

Pippa Dunn, director of pay as you go, Orange UK said: ‘With nearly two thirds of UK mobile customers now using pay as you go, we are really pleased to be bringing one of the most popular email and multimedia devices to the masses as the first operator to offer BlackBerry on pay as you go in the UK .’

The LG Cookie: New colors, same price tag

January 27, 2009 No comments yet

LG’s “affordable” touch-screen phone, the Cookie is now available to Orange customers in two new colour variants. Pink and silver versions of the phone are now available alongside the original black version. The new variants even have a new model name, the LG-KP501, as opposed to the original LG-KP500, albeit the difference being one single digit. However, the KP501 not only has a new look and model name, but the call buttons have also been made slightly slimmer from the original.

Orange is selling both the pink and silver versions of the LG Cookie for £99.99 on prepay and free on a 24-month contract at £15 per month. The LG Cookie has been incredibly popular since it went on-sale in November last year. In fact Carphone Warehouse claimed in the run up to Christmas they were selling around 20,000 LG Cookie’s a week.

Both the pink and silver LG Cookie can be purchased from Orange stores and Orange’s online shop.

Is Mobile TV going to make it?

January 27, 2009 No comments yet

Well it’s a question thats been asked a number of times before, citing pieces of evidence both for and against. However, I’ve come across two articles within the same week that are both asking the question about whether Mobile TV is going to continue as a viable service.

The first article on Broadband TV News states “Mobile TV – looking for the right business model” – and as the title suggests, the business model is a major issue. It was somewhat of a surprise to some within the Industry that actually people wouldn’t fancy paying £5-£10/month (on top of their existing mobile bill) to access TV on the move.

Risen from the dead: Palm releases new OS and new smartphone

January 13, 2009 No comments yet

Palm has unveiled its overhauled operating system alongside a touch-screen smartphone, in a bid to claw back share from competitors such as Apple. Good luck to Palm. The new phone looks cool (and could possibly compete with the iPhone) but Palm’s rep of late hasn’t been that great.

The operating system – the Palm WebOS – was developed under the watch of Palm executive chairman and former Apple chief, Jon Rubenstein, who was one of the key executives responsible for the iPod.

Palm has been developing the operating system, which is set to rival Android, since 2007. The company was the pioneer of touch-screen phones with the Treo, but has been steadily losing share to the iPhone, RIM’s Blackberry, and other similar devices.

The new smartphone, the Pre, is a touch screen device with GPS, Wi-Fi and a slide out full keyboard. It currently runs on America’s CDMA phone network and is incompatible with European mobiles, but a 3G version that could go on sale in Europe is currently in development and will be released in the next few months, and will include the UK.

The Pre phone easily consolidates multiple communication services such as instant messaging, text messaging and social networks such as Facebook, and multiple email systems. It’s already being called the “iPhone killer” in some circles, but we’ll wait and see on that designation, if it becomes the case or not.
